* For the first time in history, a 30 second commercial cost more than $5 million dollars.
* The Rams are the designated home team and will wear “throwback blue jerseys.” Yes, Los Angeles is about 2,220 miles from the site of the game, about twice as far as Boston is from Atlanta. But it’s an alternated designation. SBNation says designated away teams have won 31 of 52 Super Bowls, with the Patriots going 3-2 when wearing road unis. Also: the only team to wear throwback uniforms in the big game was the San Francisco 49ers in 1995. They won, beating the San Diego Chargers
* Bovada(CANADIAN CASINO) is offering a proposition over-under bet on total Tweets from President Donald Trump on Feb. 3. The wager is set at 6.
* This is the third time the Super Bowl has been played in Atlanta, but the first in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game has been played in 10 states.
* New England quarterback Tom Brady, 41, is the oldest starting quarterback to play in a Super Bowl. Six players 40 and older have been on Super Bowl rosters. Four Patriots – Isaiah Wynn, Christian Sam, Ja’Whaun Bentley and Keion Crossen – were born in 1996, the year after Brady graduated from high school. For the record, 37-year-old offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth is the oldest Ram. And FYI: Rams coach Sean McVay is the NFL’s youngest coach to guide a team in the Super Bowl. He turned 33 on Jan. 24.
* Nine of the top 10 most watched broadcasts of all time in the United States are Super Bowls. The lone exception is the finale of “M*A*S*H” in 1983.
* Bill Belichick has five Super Bowl rings with the Patriots, while Nick Saban has five national championships with the Crimson Tide – six overall. But, since Saban became Alabama’s head coach, they have never won their respective championships in the same season.” Belichick took over the Patriots in 2000; Saban became head coach at Alabama in 2007. Alabama, of course, just lost to Clemson in the National Championship on Jan. 7.
*12 = Number of Super Bowls Bill Belichick will have coached in after this year’s, including nine as head coach. That’s 23% of all 53 Super Bowls played. Dan Reeves is second, having coached in seven Super Bowls.
* The Pittsburgh Steelers were the first Super Bowl team to visit the White House. That occurred in 1980
