Eleven times the Florida Gators came to Omaha, twice finishing one step short of a national championship.
Tuesday, behind the stellar pitching of Tyler Dyson, the Gators finished the job, beating LSU 6-1 to capture the program’s first national title.
The Gators plated both runs in the opening two innings — J.J. Schwarz singled in the first to bring in Dalton Guthrie, and Deacon Liput singled to bring in Nick Horvath in the second.
LSU plated a run in the top of the seventh inning when Josh Smith doubled to right field, scoring Zach Watson. But Florida countered by added four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.
